Parisian Style Trench
It’s versatile. It’s timeless. It’s the Parisian Style Trench. No one wears it better than a Frenchwoman. She brings a je ne sais quoi to it. And, she wears it anywhere, anytime.
However, you can also look good in your trench. You can exude the same glamor, confidence, and self-esteem. I’m your personal stylist expert in Parisian style and lifestyle. I can guide you through the entire Parisian style. But first, let’s consider the trench.
What is a Parisian Style Trench?
It’s basically a double-breasted rain jacket with a buckle belt. However, it’s a fall/spring worn-over-your-clothes garment. Also, it can be worn open or buttoned down. And it mostly comes in neutral, easy-to-match colors. These include beige, black, and olive. I like it in red!
It looks like an item for luxury living. However, it’s reasonably priced and genderless. In addition, it can be worn in different situations. These include travel, work, and even on vacation. So, it’s a great investment.
It comes in three lengths – short, mid-length, and long. It’s also made from different fabrics. These include mixes of gabardine, cotton, polyester, and wool. The trench can also be baggy to accommodate sweaters.
How did the trench come about?
Originally, the trench was a rain jacket, and is still worn for this purpose in France. It was made from rubberized cotton.
However, this fabric was unsuitable for war. A more lightweight, waterproof, and breathable fabric was needed. During World War 1 (1914-1918) gabardine was used instead. Its inventor was Thomas Burberry. He was born in1835 and founded the iconic Burberry brand at the young age of 21 years old.
The beige color helped soldiers remain anonymous during combat. However, they began wearing the coats even off-duty. Affluent people loved the look and began copying it. The look began to feature in Hollywood movies. Ordinary people became interested, too. Different versions, colors, and fabric mixes popped up. The trench had become a daily accessory. And I’m so grateful for it.
How to wear the Trench like the French
On a Frenchwoman, the trench has added glamor. You can achieve this look, too. Here’s how to wear the mid-length trench like a Frenchwoman.
Wear your rain jacket over a white or striped tee and white pants.
Add matching handbag and heels – in your rain jacket color. This simple two-color scheme looks effortless and classy. You can vary the color of your tee shirt and pant to create a different look! I can help you with that.
Try wearing your trench like a dress over a mini dress
However, don’t buckle the belt. Simply tie it to define your great shape. Round off the look with a printed bag and flats for mild fall weather or pring — with a bootie for colder days. Magnificent!
Trench over jeans
Secure your trench over jeans with a sweater – belt tied sideways casually. The effect is snugness, sophistication, and warmth. Also, match this look with closed-toe shoes in medium-height heels. Or, wear with your favorite pair of Adidas sneakers, or “ballerine” (French for flat ballerina-style shoe).
Here’s a sexy trench-coat-turned-dress idea!
However, choose the color red. So it’s bold. It’s making a statement. But clinch the trench more tightly at the waist. This shows off your shape. A black, or brown bag and heels complete the elegant look depending on your personal colors (I can help you with that). Wear it over any dress that feels sexy to you.
Drape your trench over your little black mini-dress
Then glamorize the look with tasty jewelry. Don’t forget your shades for sunny days in the fall or springtime.
Wear your trench with a career business suit
More, your trench can be either mid-length or full-length. You can choose between a pant or skirt business suit in the color that best matches your skin, eyes, and hair color. Furthermore, I’m a certified color analyst. I can help you maximize your overall look!

I had to write and tell you how much I enjoyed this piece about the
Parisian Style Trench. You always do a beautiful job of putting together
outfits, but I think you have outdone yourself on this one. And I love
that you take the time to research what you are writing about. I love
finding out about the history of a piece or a style I like.
Thank you Tawnie. You made my day! Bisous.
