What to Wear in Hawaii

What to wear in Hawaii: Skirt and crop top with espadrille shoes, and a hat

Hawaii, the most preferred destination for couples in the USA. So, you’re probably wondering what to wear in Hawaii!

People love to visit Hawaii to watch the whales during the winter months and enjoy amazing sunny days filled with blue skies and days at the beach, in search of a tropical paradise, spiritual retreats, business…

Moreover, visitors to Hawaii may find it difficult to predict the weather because they are not on the mainland, and the climate takes some adjustment. Welcome to the tropics! Where it might rain one moment and be sunny the next.

Hawaii’s average temperature ranges around 80°F (27°C), although there isn’t much rain, and the weather is often sunny. However, the trade winds might occasionally bring showers and chilly weather.  You should be advised that the months of June through November are considered hurricane season and may experience wind and rain. Hawaii is best to visit in the spring.

Consider the following as a high-level description of what you should consider wearing in Hawaii

What to wear in Hawaii during Spring/Summer

What to wear in Hawaii during Spring/Summer: Denim short with peasant blouse and sandals

In spring the weather is usually a bit cooler and drier with temperatures averaging as low as 70°F (21°C).

Summer goes from May to October!

Are you vacationing at Hilo on the Big Island?

It rains almost every day! Then a water-repellent hat will be welcomed, along with a straw hat.

As well as raincoat and rain boots, and warm socks to go with your rain boots. And if you absolutely hate raincoats, then invest in a “quality”, good, old-fashioned umbrella – meant not to bend with the winds.

Otherwise, keep in mind that West Maui is generally drier, so you won’t need to prep for rainy days.

The temperature in Hawaii during summer may vary from 84-88°F (29-31°C) to 79-83°F (26-28°C).

Your suitcase to Hawaii should include:

Your suitcase to Hawaii should include: Maxi dress with block heels sandal, a straw hat, and sunglasses

Two pair of shorts and two pair of jeans, two blouses, and two t-shirts, one cotton or linen jacket, un châle (shawl) or a pashmina three cotton sundress or linen dresses for dinner in town.

If you intend to spend the entire day at the beach, bring three swimsuits, and flip-flops.

Your shoes can include sandals and mules for general trips, and summer hiking boots for nature expeditions and hikes.

Overall, don’t forget to bring sunscreen and bug repellent!

Moreover, while Hawaii is a fantastic spot to swim, the ocean can be quite cold. Therefore, our next topic, what to wear in Hawaii during fall/winter, is perfect in helping you pack some warm clothes—if you’re planning on spending a lot of time outdoors.

What to wear in Hawaii during Fall/Winter

What to wear in Hawaii during Fall/Winter: Open front jacket with matching skirt, an umbrella and lug sole boots

Further, November through March is typically the wintertime, and during these months, it appears to rain most often.

Although there can be seasonal variations, Hawaii’s weather is typically warm and sunny all year long. The weather is a little bit warmer in the fall with temperatures averaging as high as 80°F (27°C). Also, the fall season shares similarities with the summer season, both having rain and thunderstorms from time to time with occasional hurricanes. During the fall, rain can be excessive.

What to wear in Hawaii during Fall/Winter: Trench with a maxi dress, an umbrella, and block heels pump

There are a few things to consider: in the spring, bring lighter fabric that you can layer; in the fall, bring heavier fabric so you don’t have to layer as much. Again, a cotton blend trench to keep you warm, and a jacket should make it into your suitcase.

Also, a raincoat and rain boots are recommended, in addition to warm socks to match your rain boots.

What to wear in Hawaii during Fall/Winter: Striped sweater with short wool blend skirt, a trench, and rain boots

The temperature in Hawaii during winter may fluctuate from 60°F (16°C) to 80⁰F (27°C). Therefore, you need a cotton sweater, a trench, a closed-toe shoe, and hiking shoes.

It’s likely to snow at higher elevations, so be ready!

Your suitcase to Hawaii should include:

A cotton blend trench to keep you warm and cozy, two pairs of corduroy or wool-blend pants (if staying at a higher elevation, and if you’re sensitive to cold), and two pairs of jeans. Also, two blouses and two t-shirts, two wool-blend sweaters (for exploring mountains), two cotton sweaters, two jackets, three polyester-blend dresses (Merino blend if you’re sensitive to cold, and staying at a higher elevation) for dinner in town. Again, bring two swimsuits just in case your resort has an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, or the weather permits…

Remember to bring your stockings to go with your dresses!

Finally, if you’d like to layer during the cold season, bring a cardigan and your choice of sweaters, and leggings in fleece (for mountains).

You can exude the Parisian aesthetic in Hawaii!

You can exude the Parisian aesthetic in Hawaii: A shawl with a sleeveless openwork shirt dress, a straw hat, and a flat heel sandal

By dressing in a Parisian style, you’ll want to include French pieces that makes Parisian style so distinctive.  For example, for your t-shirts, go for a Breton stripe tee or a plain white color. Want to bring a cold-season hat? The beret is so simple and stylish! However, there are further characteristics that contribute to Parisian elegance’s ongoing popularity. Every fashion trend has undergone revisions and modifications over time. The Parisian style hasn’t changed much, though. This explains why fashion designers, royalty, and celebrities continue to favor it as the preferred look.

You can benefit from my experience visiting and enjoying the beaches of Nice in France on “la promenade des anglais”. Not to forget, watching local Parisians at “Paris Plage”, a seasonal manmade beach – on la Seine River.

Paris Plage is only available during summer. Additionally, it’s really helpful during “la canicule” – French for unbearably hot summer temperatures.
