How the La Robe a Pois is worn in Parisian style

The French are known for their luxury living. Hence, as a style expert, I can personally vouch that they flaunt the polka dot dress best. So, black and white polka dots are classic staples in Parisian style, be it oversized or small-sized creations. Therefore, the ‘80s-inspired appeal is loved by many, emitting romantic vibes all around.

It is usually worn in the spring, summer, or beginning of the fall season. However, don’t be shy to wear the silk fabric version in the winter – you’ll be a showstopper.

With time, the polka dot tradition altered into a world of its own. But each time it did, it never managed to lose its popularity. However, how did it first come into existence and by whom and why?

In the year 1867, renowned French impressionist painter Frederic Bazille depicted a sublime painting that featured women wearing blue polka dots. The polka dot trend slowly started to dominate fashion thanks to the French. In the 1920s, Coco Chanel favored dots in their alluring collections, making them an instant favorite for the masses. Equally, polka dots became an inspiring exhibit at the House of Rouff, founded in 1929, where polka dot attire in silk was the center of fashion admiration. Correspondingly, this was followed by fashion giant Christian Dior in the late 1940s, who created their sophisticated New Look collection — with polka dots being the main feature.

Thereupon, it was the year 1857, where the term polka dot was introduced in a women’s lifestyle magazine for the very first time. The issue of Godey’s Lady’s Book gave reference to a scarf with a description of light summer attire, made of muslin. The scarf was covered in elegant rows of round-shaped polka dots.

Then in the year 1926, the fashion fraternity introduced the pattern again at the Miss America pageant. A contestant flaunted a polka dot swimsuit, which was loved by all.

This was followed two years later by the renowned Disney character Minnie Mouse adorned with a red-hued polka dot dress with matching bow. And throughout the 1930s era, it could clearly be seen that polka dots had become a fashion attraction for all, be it ruffled dresses, tableware, swimsuits, accessories, and more. In this way, there was no stopping of this trend by any means.
